Who cares what you think? Public voices, politics and security

Join us for this open lecture with Professor Michael Lister, exploring the views, thoughts and experiences of "ordinary" people in politics.

Looking particularly at the issue of security, it will consider why what you think, how you feel about certain issues is not only important to political processes – but also an important focus for academic research. A crucial point is that there’s not one, single, experience or view of what it means to be secure (or insecure) and that this breadth of views and experiences can provide an important source of democratic vitality and legitimacy.

Professor Michael Lister is a Professor of Politics at Oxford Brookes University. He has secured a prestigious Economic and Social Research grant, with Lee Jarvis, to research counterterrorism powers and their impacts on security and citizenship. He has also been invited to give talks to a NATO workshop and the UK Home Office.
