Businesses in Oxfordshire that have a positive impact on the local community, economy and environment will be competing for a new award, sponsored by Oxford Brookes Business School, at this year’s Oxfordshire Business Awards.

Large and small businesses from across Oxfordshire are encouraged to enter the prestigious 2023 awards which are now in their twenty-seventh year.

Oxford Brookes Business School (OBBS) is sponsoring a brand new award for 2023, the Purposeful Business Award. Judges will be looking for evidence of embedded practices that benefit not only customers and staff, but also local communities and the planet.

Professor Tim Vorley, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of OBBS, said many businesses are increasingly thinking about their purpose.

He said: “Purposeful businesses deliver profit as well as creating positive impacts to people and the planet.

“We know the difference that small businesses make, and particularly those purposeful businesses that go the extra mile. We wanted to sponsor this category as it aligns with our own values, and we are delighted to be celebrating these engaged and impactful businesses.”

The Oxfordshire Business Awards (OXBA) started in 1994 and are now firmly established as a benchmark for excellence. During the past 27 years the awards have recognised the achievements of thousands of the county’s businesses, including accolades for new businesses, small businesses and the county’s larger businesses.

Paul Lowe, Awards chairman, added: “It is always great to bring in new sponsors to the awards, in order to inject new ideas and even new award categories.

“Winning an OXBA brings genuine recognition and acknowledgement amongst peers – therefore, we would urge businesses to consider entering these prestigious awards.”

The awards are free to enter. The closing date for entries is Monday 20 March with the winners set to be announced at a dinner taking place at Oxford Brookes University’s Headington campus on 9 June.
