About

At Oxford Brookes Law School (OBLS), we believe every student deserves the opportunity to develop their unique legal identity, their "LawID", and to achieve their professional aspirations.

LawID is our cornerstone programme, designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world legal practice. It provides students with a wide suite of co-curricular and career pathways, including clinics, workshops, internships, and invaluable experiences. Through LawID, students cultivate their legal identity and build the skills and networks essential for a successful legal career.

Our award-winning weekly newsletter, LawIDeas, enables us to keep our students informed about all the opportunities LawID offers and current events in the field.

How LawID makes a difference

  • Real-world clinical experience: LawID provides students with hands-on experience through partnerships with the Oxford Combined Court Centre, Bullingdon Prison, and on campus with numerous charities and pro bono partners.
  • Access to work experience: we facilitate access to vital work experience through our strong partnerships with nationally recognised law firms, barristers' chambers, the Crown Prosecution Service, and legally adjacent professions.
  • Mentorship and career development: our students benefit from mentorship by local and national solicitors and barristers. They can attend careers fairs on campus and at the University of Oxford, providing direct connections to the profession. Students also have the opportunity to attend regular talks and workshops from leading practitioners from a wide range of fields related to the law and to legally adjacent professions, such as legal technology.
  • Exceptional advocacy programmes: we are proud to host one of the United Kingdom's top mooting and client interviewing programmes. Each year, over a hundred students compete in our internal competitions for the coveted undergraduate and postgraduate advocacy cups. We also host a signature mock criminal trial at the end of every academic year, an event attended by OBLS students and the wider Oxford Brookes community.

Your support matters now more than ever

Many of our students arrive at Oxford Brookes without an established professional network and carry significant personal responsibilities in addition to their studies. LawID is able to run its vital programmes thanks to the generous donations of time and resources from supportive friends and colleagues, as well as external donations.

Your contribution to LawID directly empowers our students, providing them with every opportunity to develop their individual legal identity and pursue their dreams both during their time at University and beyond. This includes enabling their participation in national and international mooting competitions, which often require crucial support for travel and entry costs. In these challenging times, your support is more important than ever!
