Alumni connection opens doors: Digital Media Production students visit Warner Bros Discovery

Students in the studio

A group of third-year Digital Media Production (DMP) students recently benefited from a real-world learning experience, producing a mini sports broadcast in the professional studios of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) at Stockley Park, London.

The inspiring visit was made possible thanks to the efforts of Brookes alumnus Joe Langham, who works at WBD as a Production Coordinator. Joe reached out to the University to organise the day, ensuring current students could gain hands-on experience alongside leading professionals in sports broadcasting.

Inside the studio

The students found themselves in the very same studios used for Champions League football coverage and other major broadcasts, where they produced a mini TNT Sports show "as-live."

The hands-on session included:

  • A comprehensive tour of the facilities.
  • A Q&A session with the WBD team.
  • Working directly with industry experts, including renowned sports presenter Radzi Chinyanganya (former Blue Peter presenter), who acted as the on-screen talent for the day.

Students were trained in crucial studio roles - from Director and Floor Manager to camera operators and more - before producing a pre-prepared sports segment in a professional, "as-live" environment.

The power of the Brookes network

The trip was supported by Gillian Kelly, Lecturer in DMP, and Technical Specialist Joseph Carr, both of whom teach modules involving live TV production and studio operations within the School of Arts.

This visit offered students invaluable insight into professional broadcast workflows and powerfully demonstrated the impact of the Brookes alumni network. It highlights how connections made at the University can translate into real-world opportunities, significantly supporting current student development and employability.
