Westminster Society

The Westminster Society helps connect alumni of Westminster College, which merged with Oxford Brookes in 2000.

What is the Westminster Society?

The Westminster Society provides contact between members through:

  • The Westminsterian annual magazine
  • electronic newsletters
  • an annual reunion at the Harcourt Hill Campus.

Some regional groups also provide contact and reunion opportunities. It also links Westminster College alumni with the Oxford Brookes Alumni office and the wider university.

It is organised by an executive committee chaired by Peter Relf. There are around 800 members and the annual membership fee is £10.

History of the society

Records show there has been alumni activity since Westminster College was founded by the Methodist Church in 1851. The early activities for former students were organised by the Westminster Club which grew into the present Westminster Society.

In 1959, Westminster College relocated from London to Harcourt Hill in Oxford. In 2000, the college merged with Oxford Brookes University and the society has continued to go from strength to strength.

Bachelor of Arts Degrees

In September 2020, 517 Old Westminsterians - who had studied at Westminster College between 1954 and 1980 - were awarded Bachelor of Arts degrees. The Covid-19 pandemic meant that it was sadly impossible for an in-person graduation ceremony to go ahead, so they were sent the following congratulations video.
