Exercise Prescription for Long-Term Neurological Conditions is course for healthcare and fitness professionals wishing to deliver exercise to people with a range of long-term neurological conditions.

This is a collaborative course designed by leading UK physiotherapists, clinicians and fitness professionals.

This course is based on the outcomes of extensive research by the Centre for Movement, Occupational and Rehabilitation Sciences (MOReS) at Oxford Brookes University, into neurological populations and the effects exercise has on people with conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis. It has been developed with the support of renowned UK clinicians working in neurology and neuro-rehabilitation.

This course can be taken as a standalone module.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for practising Healthcare professionals or level 3 (exercise referral or equivalent) exercise professionals who would like to learn about different neurological conditions and how to instruct exercise for rehabilitation benefit.

English language requirements

In addition to the academic entry qualifications, if your first language is not English you must demonstrate that your level of English is appropriate for study at postgraduate level. An IELTS overall score of 7.0 is required for this course.

Fees quoted are for the first year only. If you are studying a course that lasts longer than one year your fees will increase each year.

How and when to pay

Tuition fee instalments for the semester are due by the Monday of week 1 of each semester. Students are not liable for full fees for that semester if they leave before week 4. If the leaving date is after week 4, full fees for the semester are payable.

Learning and assessment

The course demands a commitment of 200 hours of study over 6 months. This includes 2 weekends of clinic and gym practice.

The flexible study time expects you to engage with a range of Master level skills which are indicative of this level of learning and include:

  • research
  • reading
  • data analysis and interpretation
  • report writing
  • practical skills
  • profiling clients
  • developing exercise prescription plans and an exam.

Assessments are carried out through case study analysis, a multiple choice question exam and 2 weekends of face-to-face time where practical gym sessions will take place.
