Join our Subject Taster Days to gain first-hand experience of studying at university level and student life. You will have the opportunity to:

  • take part in lectures and interactive academic sessions
  • experience practical work and engage in discussion on the topics
  • discover our facilities and student life during a campus tour
  • hear about the career potential of the courses on offer.

Each Subject Taster Day is free to attend and will give insight into a range of courses within a subject area. You can find a list of which courses are included during each Subject Taster Day below.

You can apply for a Subject Taster Day place as an individual or, if you are a teacher or adviser, you can apply for your school or college group below. For any enquiries please contact our team at schools.liaison@brookes.ac.uk.

Who is it for?

Students at UK schools or colleges in the first year (or repeating the first year) of a two-year Level 3 qualification (e.g. A Levels, BTEC, or equivalent). 

Taster Day programmes

Each Taster Day is free to attend and covers a range of different topics and subject areas from across our academic faculties. You can attend as many as you want to help with your decisions about what subject might be right for you.

Nutrition and Psychology
This taster session offers an exploration of interactive elements of both Nutrition and Psychology at a University level. You will explore thematic components present in our undergraduate course, where academics and students will be present to share their insights and expertise.

This taster day offers an insight into the landscape of Adult Nursing at University. Explore the multifaceted nature of this discipline, its diverse career trajectories, and the promotional opportunities it presents. You will be able to engage in hands-on learning within a simulated clinical environment, guided by our team of Nursing academics, providing an authentic experience to develop your understanding and skills in the field.

Marketing, Management, Finance and Economics
The Oxford Brookes Business School Taster Day will provide students with a wide range of experiences, skills and knowledge by exploring some of the key concepts and theories in our Business undergraduate courses. Students will consider key aspects of Business Management, Marketing, Finance and Economics to further understand studying a degree in this evolving and exciting industry, alongside opportunities to apply learning to practical industry examples in our Social Media Lab.

This taster day will focus on design, through both the lenses of Architecture as well as Urban Design and Planning to enable your students to critically explore key ideas and themes from our units of study. This day will include interactive elements led by our team of academics and undergraduates.

This taster day will provide students with the opportunity to explore Motorsport Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics, showcasing our facilities within our brand new state of the art building.

Tuesday 13 MayFilm and Communication, Media and Culture

Ever wondered what it takes to bring a story to life on screen? Ever considered the themes and subtext behind the creative choices in a film? Whether you're passionate about studying film academically or engaging with storytelling, directing, screenwriting, and cinematography, this session will give you a hands-on insight into the exciting world of the study of film and filmmaking. You’ll also engage with questions about what we consider ‘normal’ and what it means to be ‘me’, by analyzing how new forms of communication play a central part in our lives. You’ll also focus on  the practical and technical skills necessary to create your own media forms and messages for diverse personal and professional contexts.
