Dr Amanpreet Kaur

EPSRC Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Ultrasonic Processing of 2D Nanomaterials

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Dr Amanpreet Kaur is a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (November 2020 onwards) working with Prof. Iakovos Tzanakis`s group under the project entitled “Sustainable and industrially scalable ultrasonic liquid phase exfoliation (LPE) technologies for manufacturing 2D advanced functional materials” (EcoUltra2D) funded by EPSRC. Her role is to produce graphene and other 2D materials by means of LPE techniques, the optimisation of process parameters aiming towards development of eco-friendly and scalable technology by curtailing the use of toxic reagents together with designing and to build-up a sono-reactor for graphene processing.

She did her PhD from Guru Nanak Dev University, India from 2015-2019 on research topic “Exploration of various strategies for exfoliation of graphene nanosheets and device applications thereof". During her PhD, she has explored green strategies for graphene exfoliation to investigate their device applications ranging from gas sensors, temperature sensors, conductive inks, fabrication of 2D homojunctions for resistive memories to hydrogen storage applications.

She has a variety of research papers published in international journals of repute. Besides, she has presented research papers at international conferences, workshops, seminars and summer schools. She has “Young Scientist Award (2018) in her credit from Punjab Academy of Sciences (India). She was bestowed with CEFIPRA-ESONN fellowship to participate in three weeks European school on Nano-sciences and Nanotechnologies (ESONN- 2017) at Université Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble, France, in which she received training on “Fabrication of Si-based MOSFET and chemical analysis of nanomaterials through characterization tools: SEM, TEM etc", which provided a future roadmap to extend her research work in Material Sciences. She was awarded with the Department of Science & Technology-International Travel Grant Scheme (DST-ITS-2018) from Govt. of India and a travel grant-2018 from Phantom foundation, Spain for attending Graphene2018 conference in Dresden, Germany.

Amanpreet served as ad hoc Assistant Professor (Physics) at Department of Physics, Khalsa College, India after submitting her PhD thesis (2019). She completed her Masters in Hons. Physics (2013-2015) from the Department of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University, India and her Master`s project was based on “Synthesis and Characterization of sol-gel spin coated tin oxide thin films”. After finishing her Masters, she served as a Contract Assistant Professor (Physics) at Department of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University College, India. Amanpreet considers that her under-graduation studies (2010-2013) and extra-curricular activities from Saroop Rani Govt. College, India has instigated her passion towards both teaching and research.
