Jo Skelton

Role

Jo is a senior lecturer in primary mathematics in the School of Education. She works on the Initial Teacher Education Programme, predominantly teaching on the maths modules and supervising dissertations. She is also the Academic Lead for International CPD in the Centre for Educational Consultancy and Development.

Prior to joining Oxford Brookes University, Jo enjoyed a long career in primary teaching and advisory work. She taught pupils across the primary age range in three different schools and was recognised as a 'leading' teacher, a role involving mentoring other teachers regionally. She worked as a consultant and an advisor for Gloucestershire Education Authority from 2007-12, before working independently at a National level from 2012-17. 

Jo is currently working on a PhD in translanguaging and mathematical understanding in multilingual contexts. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an ILM qualified coach and mentor. She is an executive member of the National Association of Mathematics Advisors (NAMA), a member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM) and a member of the British Educational Research Association (BERA).
