Role

Nathan Pond is a Post Doctoral Research Assistant in the Centre for Psychological Research (CfPR). Nathan is currently working with Dr Sunae Kim in the Developmental Psychology group on a Leverhulme Trust grant: ‘The role of adaptive strategies in children’s task persistence’. This project will help us gain insights into how children handle challenges and setbacks, which will be valuable for improving teaching methods that support healthy persistence.

Research

Research Interests:

  1. Children’s Task Persistence

I am currently working on a project investigating how children flexibly and adaptively navigate challenges. In doing so, we aim to gain insights into how children handle challenges and setbacks, which will be valuable for improving teaching methods that support healthy persistence.

  1. Cognitive Bias Modification for Anxiety Disorders

My research explores how novel paradigms of cognitive bias modification may help alleviate worry, the cardinal cognitive symptom of anxiety disorders. I have conducted studies testing the efficacy of both attention bias and interpretation bias modification training procedures in alleviating anxiety symptomology, as well as investigating the precision and reliability of attention bias measures.

  1. The Emotional Influence of Music

I am interested in the underlying mechanisms by which music influences emotions, with an emphasis on the relative role of the melody and the lyrics in driving this emotional effect.
