Laboratory Technician (Centre for Movement, Occupational and Rehabilitation Sciences (MOReS)

School of Sport, Nutrition and Allied Health Professions

Role

I oversee the laboratories within the centre for Movement, Occupational and Rehabilitation Sciences (MOReS) and provide technical support to the researchers and academics. I am also a part of the technical team that oversees the Sport, Exercise and Nutrition laboratories and associated technical provision for both teaching and research in these areas.

My main roles and responsibilities as a technician involve ensuring all laboratory areas and equipment are maintained correctly and calibrated to ensure accurate and reliable data (to CASES standard). I am also responsible for creating and updating all relevant health and safety documentations (risk assessments, standard operating procedures and control of substance hazardous to health (COSHH)) associated with the laboratories.

As part of the technical team, I am responsible for the setup, calibration, and clearing down of laboratory equipment to support teaching and research activities. Additionally, my role includes training staff and students in equipment use and technical procedures, as well as overseeing the loan and management of equipment for fieldwork.

Research

My main area of research is environmental physiology, specifically looking at the role of heat acclimation on athletic performance and in an occupational setting. I also have a keen interest in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in athletic and clinical populations.
