“We had networking trips in London that allowed us to actually talk to many employers to get a sense of the hospitality and events industry, how it's currently working and how it is changing all the time. To have these opportunities is amazing.”

“The induction week really helped me when I arrived.”

There were tours organised where we could go and look around the city and meet new people. That actually really helped me in terms of knowing who I actually wanted to be friends with, because the more people you meet, the more chance you have of actually meeting the friends you're going to have for the rest of your time at the University. So, it was really nice to have that opportunity before starting my studies.

“I'm already registered to do a placement next year.”

So I'm currently looking for one. The University has provided support around CVs and how to prepare for interview questions. The fact there was a placement as part of course was a reason I chose Oxford Brookes, alongside the ranking and location. I would like for it to be an events or hospitality role - a customer-facing experience in a fast paced environment. The dream would be that, at the end of the placement year, the company is actually open to sponsoring me.

“The programme leaders are always trying to put us in contact with industry leaders.”

My classmates and I all have our different aspirations and dream jobs, and I admire how our programme leaders are trying to open up networking opportunities. Last semester we had networking trips in London that allowed us to actually talk to many employers to get a sense of the hospitality and events industry, how it's currently working and how it is changing all the time. To have these opportunities is amazing.

“There is a lot of support at the University.”

My academic advisor is always available, and she tries to respond to emails as fast as possible. She will listen and guide me depending on the support needed, and will refer me to different teams around the University. For example, if I wish to volunteer at events, she’ll help me find the people I need to speak to. It’s always nice to have a safe space to talk.

“Oxford is an amazing city.”

I feel like it's the best combination, in the sense that it’s big enough that you always find new experiences, but small enough that it's easy to get around. If you go two or three times to the same pub, for example, you can actually be friends with the people behind the bar, as you actually see the same faces multiple times. So it’s a familiarity that’s nice to have.

“I’m the Postgraduate President of the Bacchus Society.”

Before this role, I was the Events Secretary of that society. I'm also part of the Outdoor Society. By being part of those, I am able to collaborate with everyone and meet new people. If there is something going on in the city, you can find out about it. It’s like you never run out of things to do. There’s always new people to meet and it’s lovely.

“I've always gone through life with this perspective of just trying everything.”

You never know what's right for you until you try it. I do have five events in mind for the future, and I would like to work at each of them and would consider myself really lucky and satisfied if that happens: the Olympics, the World Cup, Glastonbury, Tomorrowland and Formula One.
