New Project: Evaluating the Journey to Sanctuary for Oxford Brookes University

This project will conduct research to scope and develop the foundation for a University of Sanctuary application and action plan at Oxford Brookes.

The project will explore access to and experiences of transitions to education and employment among asylum seekers and refugees in Oxford in order to improve welcome and inclusion at Oxford Brookes and enhance local practice-based research.

Working in partnership with Asylum Welcome, an Oxford-based NGO with a track record in supporting institutions to successful Sanctuary status, Dr Tamsin Barber and Dr Zoe Jordan will build upon their shared expertise on processes for successful integration for refugee groups in the UK. The research takes a collaborative knowledge exchange approach, combining a range of experts in the Migration and Refugees Network steering panel and experts at Asylum Welcome. We will work in tandem with Oxford City Council and other local organisations (the Oxford Museums, University of Oxford) who are also at different stages of the sanctuary journey.
