Getting a part-time job while you’re at university is a great way to earn money, meet new people, develop your skills and boost your employability.

Did you know there are a range of paid roles for students right here on and around our campuses? In this article we’ve rounded up some of the current and upcoming opportunities, as well as resources and support available to help you find the right role for you.

Where should I start?

Register with JobTeaser to access the wide range of jobs available on the Brookes Jobshop. This is a one-stop service to help you find all the information you need about on and off-campus roles. 

JobTeaser also gives you access to information about careers events, resources to help enhance your employability, and tips and tricks for the recruitment process. 

If you’d like further support or advice, the Careers Assistants at the JobShop are available during semester time:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11.30am to 2.30pm in the John Henry Brookes Building, Headington Campus
  • Wednesdays and Fridays, 12.30 to 2.00pm in an online Zoom room.

Student Community Wardens

Team: Community Engagement Team
Hourly rate: £13.47
Location: East Oxford and area surrounding Headington Campus
Contract type: Part-time (4 hours a week), casual contract
Role description: The Student Community Wardens provide advice and guidance to students living in the private rented sector on how to be good neighbours and have a positive impact in their community

Student Induction Team (Student Staff Team Member)

Team: Student Induction Team
Hourly rate: £13.47
Location: Headington Campus
Contract type: Temporary (September and January), flexible
Role description: As a Student Staff Team member, you’ll help welcome and support new students starting at Oxford Brookes in September 2024
Responsibilities include:
  • working in a diverse and inclusive team to support all our students
  • responding to new student queries at on-campus helpdesks via phone and on Zoom
  • referring students to relevant University departments for information and support
  • supporting new students with their preparation for induction and teaching

Student Ambassador

Team: UK Recruitment Team
Hourly rate: £13.47
Location: Oxford Brookes campuses
Contract type: Flexible (must be available to work Open Days)
Role description: The Student Ambassador role is a great opportunity to represent all the things you love about Oxford Brookes. Work at events on and off campus, representing the University and your course and supporting prospective students to make informed decisions about higher education. You will have the opportunity to work at some of our largest events of the year, including open days and graduations. Many of our current ambassadors say this role has allowed them to develop skills in public speaking, customer service and so much more, while also providing the opportunity to meet new people across campus

Online Enrolment Team Member

Team: Student Central Advice Team
Hourly rate: £13.47
Location: Headington Campus
Contract type: Full-time, flexible
Role description: The Student Central Advice Team is looking to hire a group of current Brookes students for the upcoming September enrolment period. This is an exciting opportunity to support new and continuing students while developing your administrative and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities include:
  • answering enrolment queries face-to-face, by phone and by email 
  • working independently and as a team to resolve any enrolment issues
  • navigating technical problems and escalating when necessary 
  • referring students to other support services where appropriate

International Student Helper

Team: International Student Advice Team (ISAT)
Hourly rate: £13.47
Location: Headington Campus
Contract type: Casual
Role description: ISAT is looking for friendly, enthusiastic students to assist in welcoming new international students to campus and Oxford during the arrivals period of 12 to 19 September 2024. There may also be opportunities to work to support delivery of ISAT events during the semester and to work during Induction Week in January 2025
Responsibilities include:
  • running city tours and campus tours
  • meeting and greeting the new students arriving at Headington Campus by bus from the airport
  • helping to direct students to their halls of residence
  • supporting activities for international students online or in person 
  • answering questions that a new student has about settling in
  • helping with Arrival Weekend events and taking part in the ISAT workshops
  • supporting social media or other digital content creation

Housing Assistant

Team: Brookes Lettings
Hourly rate: £13.47
Location: Accommodation Bureau, Headington Campus
Contract type: Temporary, full-time
Role description: Working with Brookes Lettings staff during August and early September to ensure properties are ready to re-let after the summer. A busy hands-on role, inspecting houses for condition and safety and preparing marketing materials. Would suit those looking to gain experience in a field related to property (e.g. architecture, built environment) or marketing

Customer Service Advisor

Team: Accommodation Bureau
Hourly rate: £13.47
Location: Accommodation Bureau, Headington Campus
Contract type: Temporary
Role description: Working with a friendly team to help with prospective students’ questions and concerns about their future accommodation. Applicants need to feel comfortable handling enquiries over the phone, by email and by online chat
