Get involved with Green Impact and Fairtrade awards

Two people pushing bikes in South Park, Oxford.

If you are looking for sustainability-focused volunteering opportunities, there are two initiatives you can now volunteer for.

Green Impact Auditors

There are opportunities for students to conduct sustainability audits for a Brookes Green Impact team. That means you’ll get to review the University’s Green Impact submissions - a great opportunity to see sustainability in action and to gain new skills.

By taking on a volunteer auditing role, you can:
  • learn about environmental sustainability issues and make a positive impact
  • gain experience with auditing and improve your CV
  • take part in a certified course approved by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
Oxford Brookes University and SOS-UK are looking for students to attend a free environmental auditing training session on Wednesday 24 April. This session will include a morning of IEMA-approved training, followed by an afternoon of conducting sustainability audits for a Green Impact team from the University.

Details of the day:

  • Date: Wednesday 24 April
  • Time: 10.00am to 4.30pm
  • Location: online via Zoom
No technical knowledge is needed as full training will be provided.

All you need is an interest in sustainability and to apply via a short online form. Your application should take only a few minutes to complete and you will be contacted in April if you have been successful.

Spaces are limited so please apply soon - we may close the form early if we receive a lot of responses!

What is Green Impact?

Green Impact is an environmental accreditation programme designed to encourage, support and celebrate departments in making environmental improvements. Brookes recently enjoyed huge success at the Green Impact National Awards by winning three of the five categories

All teams participating in Green Impact will need an audit to verify their level of achievement (Bronze, Silver or Gold). If you have any questions about taking part, please email celine.clark@sos-uk.org.

Fairtrade University and College Award Auditors

You can also volunteer to be an auditor for the Fairtrade University and College Awards.

Volunteer auditors conduct an audit of the University to review efforts to embed and promote Fairtrade and wider ethical consumption. You will receive full training via Zoom, delivered by SOS-UK and the Fairtrade Foundation, where you will learn about trade justice issues and how they apply to the University. It will also be an opportunity to develop professional and analytical skills and learn how to conduct an audit.

Zoom training will take place during two identical sessions (you only need to attend one) running on:
  • Tuesday 16 April, 10.00am to 12.30pm (breaks included)
  • Thursday 18 April, 1.00pm to 3.30pm (breaks included)
Find out more and apply through the short online form by Sunday 24 March. You will hear back from us, if chosen, by Thursday 28 March.
