Road Safety Week 2025

Road Safety Week and red heart that looks like a road

Road Safety Weeks runs 16 to 22 November

As part of Road Safety Week (16 to 22 November), the University’s Security team is partnering with Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire County Council, the Fire and Rescue service and our Student Community Wardens to deliver a road safety awareness event.

This will take place on Wednesday 19 November between 5.00pm and 8.00pm on the piazza space near to the John Henry Brookes Building at Headington Campus.

Whether you walk, cycle, drive or ride an or e-bike or e-scooter, come and chat with the team who will be on hand to:

share advice on staying safe and being visible on and around roads
outline what is legal when travelling around the city and possible penalties
provide free reflective straps, temporary bike lights and cycle saddle covers.

The team will also be speaking to cyclists travelling without lights and drivers with vehicle defects (such as faulty lights), offering guidance and support.

Bike Marking

You can also take part in Bike Marking sessions being held in support of Road Safety Week. Marking and registering your bike reduces the risk of theft and increases the chances of recovery if stolen.

The sessions are being held on:
  • Monday 17 November, 12 noon to 2.00pm, Main Entrance of the Marston Road site
  • Tuesday 18 November, 11.00am to 2.00pm, piazza space, Headington Campus
  • Tuesday 25 November, 11.00am to 2.00pm, piazza space, Headington Campus.

At these sessions, you can:
  • have your bike marked and registered with a national database
  • pick up free reflective straps, temporary bike lights and saddle covers
  • purchase discounted D-locks and bike lights which are available via University’s online shop.
