The UK Home Office recently announced a visa brake on study route visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan.

The UK Home Office recently announced a visa brake on study route visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan. This means that the UK Government will not issue student visas to nationals from these countries and who are currently based outside of the UK after 26 March 2026. This restriction applies to all UK universities. As a result, Oxford Brookes will no longer be able to sponsor new students from these countries for the duration of the visa brake, which will be a minimum of 18 months.

Current Brookes students who are nationals of these countries, and who are currently studying with us on a student visa, can continue to study within the conditions of their existing visa, but it may affect a future extension or application. We recommend that current students contact our International Student Advice Team (ISAT) so that it can provide support and the correct advice and information to our students based on their individual circumstances.
