Employability

Some students see a law degree as a route to professional practice while others choose not to practise law – a law degree is a suitable education for a wide variety of careers because of its intellectually demanding nature.

As an Oxford Brookes law graduate you will be confident in communicating legal knowledge and you will have the techniques of research, analysis and articulation that are transferable to postgraduate study and to a wide range of careers. Whether you choose a career in publishing, government, the armed forces or management positions in industry, your law degree will open many doors.

We pride ourselves on maintaining strong links with major law firms, and we have an excellent reputation for creating high calibre and sought-after trainees.

We enjoy an international reputation for excellence and we are currently ranked amongst the “world’s elite” for Law and within the top 200 Law schools in the world according to the latest QS World University Rankings.

To ensure the employability of our graduates we encourage them to take part in the many additional  professional skills we offer such as client interviewing, mooting, pro bono opportunities and both solicitor and barrister mentoring programmes

In addition, we host the annual Oxford Brookes Law Fair – an extremely valuable networking event attended by potential employers, many of whom whom are able to offer training contracts to promising candidates.

Prestigious scholarships

Previous students have gone onto win scholarships from the Inns of Court in London to study for the Bar professional training course. In 2013 one student on the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) won two scholarships from the Inner Temple and two others were awarded the Lord Denning Scholarship by Lincoln’s Inn and the Shakespeare Memorial Award by Gray’s Inn.

“Having LLM after your name, does make you stand out from the crowd. For my dissertation I wrote about the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which I think helped me land a job here at UNICEF. That flexibility with the choice of dissertation helped me into my new career. Brookes’reputation as a good, solid University helps very much in the job market.”
