Tai Chi

(Maximum 30)
This workshop will take students through the basics of Qi Gong Tai Chi. From a simple warm up to get blood flowing, students will be taken through the basic steps of the 5 animals, the tiger, the deer, the monkey, the bear and the bird. Students will have the opportunity to not only learn from a long practiced and qualified instructor but work together to teach and present to each other this routine.


Tea demonstration and tasting

(Maximum 30)
In this session students will be taught all about tea culture in China. They will be introduced to the tools employed in a tea ceremony and daily drinking before being taken through a traditional tea ceremony. Following the demonstration, students will have the opportunity to taste traditional Chinese teas.

Calligraphy

(Maximum 30)
This workshop combines lesson with practice. Students will begin learning about the history and importance of calligraphy, its evolution and key tools. They will be guided through the basic strokes before trying to produce the character 福 fú which means good luck and fortune in Chinese. Students will be provided with ink, brushes and ample paper to practice before transferring their skills to red paper to demonstrate their character skill. There will be extra time for students to practice additional characters and possible Chinese names if they wish.

Chinese Paper Cutting

(Maximum 30)
This session will teach students step by step to produce a 3D paper cut of chūn 春 to display for the Spring Festival. With their chūn, students will be able to decorate their home or school space to celebrate the Spring Festival with their personal work. 

Brush Painting Workshop

(Maximum 30)
This workshop combines lesson with practice. Our teacher will first introduce the cultural background and unique features of Chinese paintings. Next, attendees will be guided through the basic methods to create a Chinese masterpiece of their very own. No previous experience is required. All materials will be provided and all are welcomed to attend!

Knot Making

(Maximum 30)

Chinese knotting, also known as 中国结 Zhōngguójié and decorative knots in non-Chinese culture, is a decorative handcraft art that began as a form of Chinese folk art in the Tang and Song dynasty (960-1279 CE). In this workshop students will learn the history and also follow a step by step instruction of simple Chinese knotting and creating their own colourful knots to take away with them.

Fan Painting

(Maximum 30)

Immerse yourself in the exquisite world of traditional Chinese fan painting through this workshop! The class will explore the history and the process before giving students  the chance to create their very own art piece on a Chinese fan!

Sichuan Opera Masks

(Maximum 30)

In this workshop, students will learn about the history of Sichuan Opera and have the opportunity to create your own  Sichuan Opera changing masks using traditional techniques and materials!

Velvet Flower

(Maximum 30)

The velvet flower is a symbol of good luck, it is believed that it will bring fortune to people in Chinese culture. In this workshop, students will have the chance to explore the meaning behind the flower before creating their own blossoming peach flower!

Paper handcrafts

(Maximum 30)

In this workshop, students will learn about the origin of Chinese paper crafting before learning how to make their very own jumping paper frog! In the workshop, students will be able to race their paper frogs competing against other classmates to reach the finish line first and receive special Spring Festival prizes.

Chinese Embroidery

(Maximum 30)

Embroidery is a brilliant pearl in Chinese art. In this workshop, students will learn about the different type of embroidery art and have the chance to make their own from a series of templates! 

This workshop involves using needles and thread.

Chinese Ink Printing

(Maximum 15)

Moveable printing is a technique that uses individual metal or wooden letters, numbers, and symbols to create text and images. This method was invented in China during the 11th century and was later introduced to Europe in the 15th century by Johannes Gutenberg. You will have the chance to try the old and magic printing technique with yourself and leave with your created poem!

Chinese Weddings

(Maximum 30)

In this workshop students will learn about the tradition of Chinese wedding ceremonies and their procedures. Students will learn about the differences between weddings held in the UK and weddings held in China. They will explore the different clothing styles worn and have the chance to paint their own portrayal of these outfits at the end!

Chinese Traditional Music

(Maximum 30)

In this workshop, students will explore the differences between Modern music and Chinese traditional music, exploring the different types of instruments and seeing how they are played. Students will get the chance to try and play a Chinese instrument called an erhu 二胡. and engage in musical games and quizzes. 

Chinese Historical Fashion

(Maximum 30)

If you were born in China 3000 years ago, 2000 years ago, 1000 years ago,100 years ago, What would you wear? In this workshop, students will learn about the different types of fashion in China's history from the Han Costume to the Qipao. There will also be several traditional Chinese costumes that everyone can have chance to wear. At the end, the students can also design a Chinese-style costume by paper crafting and painting.
