Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education 2026

Oxford Brookes University healthcare and Social Work students and staff are celebrating outstanding placement experiences.

Students of Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic Science, and our newest programme of Dietetics, have benefited from active and regular placements across all years of their courses. During the two years this booklet covers, over 220 students felt their placement was of such high quality, it was deserving of a nomination for being exceptional.

These nominations, which were submitted between May 2023 and May 2025 (inclusive) have been collected into a new booklet Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education 2026 - read what our students had to say.

Working with placement partners in primary care settings, community teams, hospitals, charities and local government organisations, students attended placements across Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Gloucestershire, and elsewhere across England, with some travelling further afield to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Several international students even completed placements back in their home country.

To staff at all our placement partner organisations, we say a huge “thank you” for creating placement environments where our students not only learn well with support and encouragement, but also feel welcomed as a successful individual within the team where they can thrive and become the best practitioners they can be. Your passion for your profession and dedication to creating the best student placement experiences possible is inspirational.

Knowledge, understanding, care, compassion and adaptability are abundant in placements for all programmes, and we applaud the dedication that is put into student placement experiences on a daily basis. With the combined input from the University and placement providers, we are truly working towards our collaborative goal of building a talented and sustainable workforce for the future.

“These nominations stand as a powerful testament to the strength and depth of the partnerships we have built with our placement providers. Each submission reflects the commitment, professionalism, and enthusiasm shared by placement providers, students, and University staff, working together to deliver exceptional educational experiences.”

Astrid Schloerscheidt, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Faculty of Health, Science and Technology

Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education 2023

Take a look at our previous booklet Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education 2023. As the University and all our placement partners focused on re-establishing a full programme of placements following the pandemic, we were impressed by the great examples of collaborative working we saw that led to a huge number of nominations for students who had received outstanding placement experiences.

“The publication of the Long-Term Workforce Plan has set out ambitious goals for our workforce. All of us together are at the heart of making these ambitions a reality. We are therefore immensely grateful for the willingness to work together to invest in the future workforce and for the contribution to the early development of the careers of our students.”

Astrid Schloerscheidt, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Placement of the Year Award 2022

Take a look at our previous Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education booklet for 2022. Published at a time when students and placement providers were still experiencing the unprecedented challenges of working through a pandemic, but yet having received a vast number of of nominations from grateful students, this was our first booklet issued in lieu of an in-person Placement of the Year Award ceremony.

“To the teams at all our placement providers, we would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ for your dedication to providing outstanding learning experiences for our students. The work of these experienced practitioners enables students to integrate theory and current evidence into professional practice. This directly benefits patients and clients.”

Astrid Schloerscheidt, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
