Role

As a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Brookes, I integrate my research interests with teaching to create engaging and impactful learning experiences. I bring my ongoing research into the classroom, connecting theory with practice and encouraging students to critically reflect on contemporary marketing challenges.

Alongside this, I play an active role in supporting colleagues and students in exploring the use of AI in teaching and research, helping to foster innovative and ethical engagement with these tools. My teaching is grounded in real-world cases, hands-on practice and innovative pedagogies that develop employability skills and prepare students for the workplace.

As an Academic Advisor and Placement Tutor, I mentor students throughout their academic journey and career development. I also contribute to external impact through moderation with partners, inviting guest lecturers, and leading public engagement activities that build meaningful connections between academia and industry.

My teaching is designed to be highly interactive, combining real-world cases, hands-on practice and innovative pedagogies that encourage students to think critically and apply knowledge in practical contexts. I integrate my research interests into the classroom, ensuring that students engage with current debates and developments in marketing. I also support the ethical and effective use of AI in learning, guiding students to explore how emerging technologies can enhance their studies and future professional practice. Beyond formal teaching, I contribute through my role as Academic Advisor and Placement Tutor, mentoring students and supporting their academic, personal and career development. I also enrich the student experience by involving guest lecturers and external partners, bringing industry perspectives into the classroom.

Supervision

I supervise postgraduate students with the primary goal of helping them realise their full potential as researchers. My approach is supportive and collaborative, encouraging students to take ownership of their work while guiding them to achieve the highest standards. I place particular emphasis on turning research projects into publishable outcomes, and I have a strong track record of students presenting at academic conferences and publishing their work in books and journals. Supporting students to take the most from their supervision experience, I aim to build their confidence, independence and academic voice.

Research

My research is rooted in an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together social sciences and consumer research, particularly insights from social anthropology and sociology. I am especially interested in consumer culture, exploring themes and theories related to sustainability, luxury, the theory of the gift, social distinction, data privacy and ethics, with a particular — though not exclusive — focus on Latin America. I have published in academic journals and books, presented my work at international conferences, and contributed to public scholarship through collaborations with museums and other cultural institutions. These activities reflect my commitment to advancing critical debates in consumer research while making them accessible and relevant to wider audiences.

Research impact

My research contributes to advancing interdisciplinary debates in consumer culture, particularly around sustainability, luxury, ethics and data privacy. It has been disseminated through publications in academic journals and books, as well as presentations at international conferences, helping to shape current conversations within the field. Beyond academia, my work has reached broader audiences through public engagement, including collaborations with museums and cultural institutions. By making research accessible in these spaces, I aim to foster critical reflection on contemporary issues of consumption and to contribute to wider societal debates, both in Latin America and globally.
