Diversifying the Curriculum

About

The Diversifying the Curriculum strand of PESE2: Inclusive Multi-Modal Learning Environment (2015 - 2017) focuses on supporting those involved in the design, delivery, assessment, evaluation, review, reporting and management of taught programmes so that they can embed Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BME/BAME) diversity into taught content. The overall aim is to give BME/BAME students a sense of belonging to academia and enable all students to meaningfully engage in the Brookes Core Attributes.

This workstrand has seen the creation of a website that provides open access to a pedagogic toolkit, which includes relevant literature on BME/BAME diversity in higher education as well as teaching and learning materials that help increase the visibility of BME/BAME figures and influences in academic knowledge. This workstrand has also resulted in the creation of a BME/BAME staff action group that will oversee initiatives such as a BME/BAME diversity newsletter.

A website specially dedicated to embedding Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BME/BAME) diversity into taught content can be accessed on the Diversifying the Curriculum website.

The website is home to a growing pedagogic toolkit that supports the work of teaching professionals and diversity practitioners in higher education. The pedagogic toolkit includes information on the following:

  • discipline specific and cross-disciplinary teaching and learning materials;
  • BME/BAME diversity related publications (reports, papers, literature reviews, newsletter);
  • literature on unconscious bias and an online implicit bias test;
  • filmed panel discussions;
  • BME/BAME staff action group;
  • teacher training workshops and webinar;
  • public lectures and community events.
