At Oxford Brookes University, we understand that life comes with its challenges and that colleagues may encounter various health and wellbeing issues. Therefore, we provide a range of benefits to help staff access quick and affordable healthcare.

These include:

Discounted Bupa medical insurance via Uni-Health. For further information, please visit the MyLifestyle Hub and select the wellbeing tab.
Employee Assistance Programme - colleagues can access a range of resources to support wellbeing.
MyLifestyle Discounts - offers are regularly updated and include discounted medical insurance, private health tests and assessments, along with gym memberships.

Unum dental cover

To help with costly private dental treatment or with NHS charges, Oxford Brookes staff are able to access discounted dental insurance.

The available plans on offer cover a range of treatments including check- ups, hygiene visits, fillings, crowns, and dental implants. Colleagues are able to:

choose any dentist worldwide
make claims from the beginning of the policy
claim from the very start of your policy including any pre-existing conditions (except for mouth cancer)
claim for planned and pending treatments – where treatment has been identified but not yet started
add partners and children to the cover (at an additional cost)
include child orthodontic cover for insured children
no dental health check is required
submit claims via the MyLifestyle benefits Hub and the UNUM online portal
access to the ToothFairy App and online support.

Cover levels, annual limits and exclusions apply. Please ensure that you read the policy documents provided on the UNUM portal carefully before applying.

How much does it cost and which plan is right for me?

There are three plans available that cover a range of circumstances. The UNUM dental plan guide may help you to identify which plan is right for you. Cover starts from £8.25 per month and increases along with the plan limit. For example, the Clear Plus 5 plan has an annual limit of £2,500.

How does it work?

access the MyLifestyle benefits Hub and select UNUM Dental
select a level of cover from the benefits schedule
use the Oxford Brookes enrolment code when prompted: A683F7/2920
the employer number is 2920
once you have enrolled, UNUM will send you a welcome email to confirm cover shortly after the policy start date.

Colleagues will be able to enrol on their chosen plan from 30 January to 27 February 2024. Policies will take effect from 14 March 2025 for a 12-month period.

How do I make a claim?

access the MyLifestyle benefits Hub and select UNUM Dental (you can also access this via your smartphone)
complete the online claims form
upload details of your treatment, your dentist’s details and proof of payment
- Without proof of payment, UNUM will be unable to process your claim

To maximise the benefit of your cover, we advise that any invoice/details of treatment provided by your dentist includes a detailed breakdown of cost.

Claims should be submitted within 12 months of treatment or the last treatment within any course of treatment.

Can I change my mind and cancel my policy?

Please note that you are unable to cancel this insurance until the next renewal period (February 2026), unless you leave Oxford Brookes or there is a change in circumstances. Further details can be found in your policy summary.

As this is a corporate policy, your cover will automatically end if you leave Oxford Brookes.

Unum Dental may contact you with options to continue your cover as an individual using the email address you provided when you registered to use the online portal. If you do not wish to receive this communication, please contact Unum Dental directly.

What happens when my cover ends after 12 months?

Colleagues will need to renew their chosen plan after the 12-month cover period has expired. UNUM will be in touch by email to confirm if you would like to continue the cover or end your policy.

I have just joined Oxford Brookes, however the enrolment window has closed. Can I still access this cover?

Yes, new starters will have 30 days from receipt of a MyLifestyle benefits hub login to enrol and receive cover.

Please ensure you quote the date that you received your MyLifestyle login.

I would like to add my son/daughter to the cover, however they are over 18. Would I still be able to add them as a child to my policy?

Yes, you are able to add children up to the age of 25 years old.

What do I need to do if I leave Oxford Brookes before my policy ends?

Please email UNUM directly to inform them that you are leaving the business, copied into payandreward@brookes.ac.uk.
