Hours of work

Professional Services, Research and PGTA staff

Employees are required to work 37 hours per week. These hours will be spread over a five-day week, Monday to Friday, unless stated otherwise. Arrival and departure times will be as agreed with the individual’s line manager.

Part-time employees will work the number of hours/weeks stated in their contract of employment and their precise working pattern will be as agreed with their line manager.

Lecturing Staff

The nature of lecturing posts is such that they are expected to work such hours as are necessary in order to fulfil their duties and responsibilities. For a part-time post the duties and responsibilities will be adjusted pro rata.

Senior Staff

The nature of these posts is such that staff will be expected to work such hours as are necessary in order to fulfil their duties in a professional manner.

The minimum working requirements expected are that staff are on duty each weekday Monday to Friday and work a minimum of 37 hours for the University. Any request for absence for more than two days must be made to the Vice-Chancellor or his/her nominee. Such approval will not be unreasonably withheld. Staff will comply with any request to attend at the University or elsewhere from the Vice-Chancellor or his/her nominee in the furtherance of their duties.
