LGBTQ+ Allies

We can provide rainbow lanyards and badges plus pronoun badges for any Brookes staff who would like to wear them. Please email Jayne Stuart: jstuart@brookes.ac.uk to request any of these.

We also provide allies training. If you're interested in attending, please email Kate Harford: kate.harford@brookes.ac.uk to be added to the waiting list.

Local groups

Oxford Friend - voluntary organisation based in Oxford that provides free and confidential information, support and counselling services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer community.

My Normal - a creative project for LGBTQI+ young people, looking to give them a voice through creativity and a safe space within the community in Oxford.

TOPAZ - a collection of people; staff and volunteers, who run TOPAZ with and for young people who would like a safe space to explore their feelings and gain a better understanding of themselves.

National support

FFLAG - national voluntary organisation and charity dedicated to supporting parents and their lesbian, gay, bisexual and Trans sons and daughters.

Galop - the UK’s only specialist LGBT+ anti-violence charity. Our mission is to make life just, fair and safe for LGBT+ people. We provide advice, support and advocacy to people who have experienced hate crime, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Gendered Intelligence - increasing understanding of gender diversity through creative ways. Our vision is of a world where people are no longer constrained by narrow perceptions and expectations of gender, and where diverse gender expressions are visible and valued.

The Gender Trust - supporting all those affected by gender identity issues.

GIRES - improving the lives of trans and gender non-conforming people, including those who are non-binary and non-gender.

LGBT Foundation - a national charity delivering advice, support and information services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities.

Mermaids - supports gender-diverse children and young people until their 20th birthday, as well as their families and professionals involved in their care.

Mind LGBTIQ+ mental health - information about mental health support for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer or questioning (LGBTIQ+).

MindOut - a mental health service run by and for lesbians, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer people. We work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities and to make mental health a community concern.

Switchboard - LGBT+ Helpline. A safe space for anyone to discuss anything, including sexuality, gender identity, sexual health and emotional wellbeing.

UK Lesbian & Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG) - supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer or intersex (LGBTQI+) people through the asylum and immigration system.

Organisations

Just Like Us - charity which recruits LGBT+ young people aged 18-25 and partners with prestigious employers to train them to be school role models and LGBT+ workplace leaders.

LGBT+ History Month - informative and celebratory month, to educate out prejudice and make LGBT+ people visible in all their rich diversity. Resources are available on the website.

The Proud Trust - a life saving and life enhancing organisation that helps LGBT+ young people empower themselves, to make a positive change for themselves, and their communities. We do this through youth groups, coordinating national and regional LGBT+ youth work networks, managing the LGBT+ Centre for Manchester, delivering training, running events and campaigns, undertaking research and creating resources.
