Celebrating student volunteering

7 February 2023

Student and Volunteer Adviser

It’s Student Volunteering Week from 13 to 19 February and Oxford Brookes Volunteer Centre shares some of the ways you can get involved!

Student Volunteering Week celebrates student volunteering as a way to improve wellbeing, enhance employability and contribute positively to local community life.

It's the perfect time to try something new and support a cause you care about! We have lots of volunteering opportunities on our Volunteer portal and we also add opportunities every week on our Oxford Brookes Volunteers Facebook page.

To find out more, you can book an online chat by emailing volunteering@brookes.ac.uk, or pop by the Volunteer Centre outside Careers in the Forum, John Henry Brookes Building (JHBB), Headington Campus, on Fridays between 11.30am and 2.30pm - we’ll help you find a volunteering opportunity that suits you. If you’re able to get to Headington Campus, you could visit the charities that join us every Friday during semester time from 11.30am to 2.00pm outside Careers. Find out who’s joining us each week.

We have a range of events happening on campus during Student Volunteering Week that you can take part in:

  • Monday 13 February, 12 noon to 1.00pm - Introduction to Volunteering online workshop, find out all you need to know about how to start volunteering and how you can use it on your CV.
  • Tuesday 14 February, 11.00am to 2.00pm - Volunteer fair in the Forum, JHBB, Headington Campus: come along and find out how you can make a difference at a local charity. We will have 15 organisations joining us.
  • Wednesday 15 February, 12 noon to 2.00pm -  Ox Clean litter pick, Headington Campus, we will be helping the environment, protecting the local wildlife and giving back to our wonderful city by picking up litter around Headington. You will receive a certificate of participation after your volunteering to show the difference you have made.
  • Friday 16 February, 11.30am to 2.30pm - Come say hello! We’ll be at Careers in the Forum, JHBB, Headington Campus. Swing by to get some sweets and find out more about volunteering.

We’re also sending out certificates or participation to students who have started volunteering in the past year, please email volunteering@brookes.ac.uk to receive yours.

Make 2023 a great year by volunteering and making a difference!
