The Critical Prompt: AI and Higher Education Reading Group (18 February)

AI and Higher Education Reading Group for Staff and Postgraduate research Students

Join Stefani Goga and Martha O'Curry from the Centre for Academic Development for our monthly reading group. In these sessions we will reflect on some of the big and difficult questions relating to the impact of AI on Higher Education and learning. The online meetings are informal, require no expert knowledge, and are open to all staff and postgraduate research students. In February we will be discussing Geoffrey Cox's (2023) paper on Artificial Intelligence and the Aims of Education. Cox tells us that 'Educators want their students to seek knowledge and to be motivated, guided, and empowered by it' (2023 p.16) and queries what this might mean in a world where a 'personal store of knowledge is largely unnecessary because all knowledge is available on demand' (p.17). Join us as we respond to Cox's discussion of three imaginary students who approach the use of AI in different ways.
