Dissertation essentials: Understanding quantitative research (11 February)

Understand key features of quantitative research and how to choose the right path for your research study

This session breaks down what is meant by research methodology to help you clarify where your research study fits into the broader sphere of research methods. It will explore types of quantitative data collection methods such as surveys and experiments, as well as meta-analysis for systematic reviews (which can be qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods). The session will also consider methods for analysing quantitative data and discuss the benefits and challenges of working with quantitative data in research. This session aims to provide you with the information you need to make informed choices about the type of research you want to conduct. If you have already chosen a quantitative path, it should give you confidence when writing about your choices in your methodology chapter.
