Vape disposal

It is estimated that around 150,000 disposable vapes are thrown away in Oxfordshire every week. Oxford Brookes is participating in a new trial with Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council and Oxford City Council to promote safe disposal of vapes and reduce environmental contamination. Specialised recycling bins for vapes are now available across campuses and accommodation sites.

Vapes should not be thrown in general waste or standard recycling bins, as they can cause fires and pollution. Please use these designated vape bins instead at the following locations:

In January 2024, the UK Government announced plans to ban disposable vape with further information available via the press release published online. The disposable vape bins on Oxford Brookes' campuses and halls of residence will remain in place until this proposed legislation passes into UK law.
