Oxford Brookes is supporting students and staff

Oxford Brookes is a global University and we recognise that the conflict in Israel and Gaza is distressing for many members of our community. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by recent events in the region.

We are committed to ensuring an environment in which we celebrate, value, and respect each other - this is particularly important at difficult times such as these.

We know that some students and staff will require extra support at this time, and there are a number of support services available to you if you need them.

Support and advice for students

Emotional Support

If you need additional emotional support and are anxious or distressed, please contact Student Welfare at studentwelfare@brookes.ac.uk.

Members of the Multifaith Chaplaincy team offer pastoral care to students as well as staff. To talk to one of the team, email chaplaincy@brookes.ac.uk or call +44 (0)1865 484690. In-person, video or telephone appointments can be arranged.

If you are an international student you are welcome to talk to the International Student Advice Team (ISAT) about any issue you are facing. You can email them to arrange a virtual appointment, or book an in-person appointment to see a member of the team in Student Central on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For details of how to book, see the following website.

If your studies are being affected

If you are finding that your studies are being disrupted, please make use of our exceptional circumstances procedure, using the Type C route. Your Student Support Coordinators can help you make an application.

Financial Support

If you are experiencing unexpected financial difficulties as a result of the current situation, please email finaid@brookes.ac.uk.

Accommodation and Tuition Fees

If you are having problems paying your tuition or hall fees due to the current situation in Israel and Gaza, please contact credit-control@brookes.ac.uk

Travel advice

We strongly recommend that any students or staff travelling to the region refer to the latest travel advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. You may also find this recent UK Government alert useful.

Support and advice for staff

Staff can contact the Employee Assistance Programme for confidential advice and support (Brookes login required).

If you are experiencing financial difficulties because of the conflict, permanent employees with over six months’ service can apply to the Staff Assistance Fund for one-off financial help. Any employee can seek free and confidential financial advice and coaching from the University’s partner charity Navigate.
