Legal Services

  • The Legal Services office is staffed with qualified lawyers subject to Solicitors Regulation Authority regulation, and is responsible for all legal advice to the University, part of which advice it arranges through the engagement of externals.

The lawyers feed into the University’s decision-making processes and conduct the transactions resulting from University decisions. Frequent examples of these transactions include the licensing of intellectual property (inventions, trade marks), property, infrastructure and IT contracts and academic collaborative provision.

As part of the legal work, the lawyers provide the University’s authorized signatories with advice on any unusual implications arising and with assurance that the proper University processes have been used (e.g. to determine whether insurance cover and VAT applies).
