Keynote 2

  • Assessment for learning: where is it now and where is it going ?

    Paul Black, King's College London

Findings from research about the value of assessment for learning, have been used as a basis for work with schools to develop their practical implementation. This work has attracted wide interest and it is now being recommended in government initiatives for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. The lecture will survey the innovations in practice that have been found effective and discuss two issues which now emerge. One is the problems of misunderstanding and distortion which go with rapid dissemination of any innovation. The other concerns the question of whether the innovation is either new or unique - a question which can be explored by comparing it with a other innovations in classroom pedagogy.
