Student bus passes

Oxford Brookes students can buy a discounted CityZone bus pass to save hundreds of pounds a year on sustainable travel in Oxford. This pass provides access to a range of Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel services across the city centre and the majority of greater Oxford. View the CityZone network map.

The University has committed to provide this discounted travel offer for at least three years from July 2026.

Choose your pass

CityZone Annual pass

Pass cost: £270
Time covered: valid for 12 months from the point of activation

The recommended pass for anyone studying in Oxford for at least one academic year. Travel as much as you like within the CityZone during your chosen 12-month period. This pass would cost £732 full price, meaning Oxford Brookes students save 63%.

Cityzone Semester pass

Pass cost: £135
Time covered:
- Semester one pass: 1 September to 31 January
- Semester two pass: 1 January to 30 June

Exclusively available to Oxford Brookes students, this pass covers all the same bus routes but for a single semester.

Please note that the semester pass works differently to the annual pass. It is valid for the pre-defined semester dates only, regardless of when you purchase or activate it.

Apply for your pass

To get your discounted pass, you’ll need to:

Complete your online enrolment (from Friday 4 September)
Make sure you can access your Oxford Brookes email account (from Monday 7 September)
Download the Oxford Bus Company app
Register for an account with Oxford Bus Company using your Oxford Brookes email address (ending in ‘brookes.ac.uk’) and verify your account by following the instructions sent to your inbox
Log in to your account on the app and purchase a CityZone bus pass - the discount will be applied at checkout.

Using your pass

After you buy your pass, it will be ready to activate in the 'Mobile Tickets' section of the app.

You'll need to activate your ticket the first time you're ready to travel, which will then give you the option to display the ticket. Simply scan the QR code on the ticket machine next to the driver as you get on the bus. You'll need to scan the QR code at the start of every journey.

Other ways to get discounted bus travel

Oxford Brookes students can benefit from a range of additional bus and coach travel discounts such as single and multi-tickets and season passes.

You can get a Brookes CityZone Single ticket by showing your student ID card to the driver on the bus and paying using contactless or cash. Oxford Brookes students pay £2 for a single (the standard price is £2.80).

Return tickets to Heathrow and Gatwick on the Airline coach

You can use the Airline coach for easy and convenient access to major airports, day or night. The coaches all have toilets, 24/7 WiFi, reclining seats, USB charging points and climate control.

Return ticket to Gatwick: £35 (reduced from £45)
