Student Induction Team

You are never far away from a friendly face during the induction period. We will be available both on campus and remotely in case there is anything you need to know.

You can meet us in person from Tuesday 8 September through to mid-October. Before then, feel free to contact us via the chat below or email induction@brookes.ac.uk.

Ask us about...

  • finding your way around campus
  • your course induction schedule
  • accessing online university platforms
  • your class timetable
  • events and workshops you can attend
  • where to find personal and academic support
  • settling in as a new student.

If you need help with something once the induction period is over, we recommend going to the Student Hub. You can book appointments with advisors about various topics, go to the desk for a walk-in appointment or send questions to the team for advice.

Who are the Student Induction Team?

Our team is made up of students in different academic years and studying a variety of subjects, plus some permanent staff members. We have all experienced at least one induction before, and as everyone's experience is unique, that means we have lots of different perspectives on what coming to university is like.

We can talk you through the basics and discuss general information any new student needs to know, or we can discuss your specific questions and interests. If you'd like to hear about what we enjoy doing at Oxford Brookes, or how we got help when we needed it, our team members are generally very happy to share.

Looking for places to shop or eat? Maybe you'd like to know how to travel around Oxford? Take advantage of our local knowledge and ask! We'd love to tell you about our favourite places around the city.

Keeping well at University

Whether you are nervous, excited or both, the Student Induction Team are happy to chat with you about how you are feeling. Depending on what you need, we can recommend social activities and suggest ways to keep busy, or we can direct you to wellbeing activities and the quiet spaces around campus.

Sometimes our students want more targeted support around mental health and wellbeing. There are a range of different resources and teams that can assist you in maintaining good mental health and/or help you if you are struggling.

  • The Multifaith Chaplaincy offers pastoral support, a safe place to talk and activities for mindfulness, whether or not you are religious or spiritual.
  • Togetherall is a mental health website that offers 24/7 online support.
  • The Counselling Service offers one to one counselling as well as workshops, talks, groups and resources.
  • If you are experiencing a particularly difficult time that is having a significant effect on your studies and every day life, you can contact the Student Welfare Team.

If you are unsure who to contact or wish to talk to someone about your support needs, use the student support contact form. The Student Support Services Team aims to reply within three working days of receiving your form. If you need help filling in the form, or if you cannot access it, please contact studentsupportservices@brookes.ac.uk.
