Online platforms

As a student of Oxford Brookes you'll be expected to use certain online platforms and systems. Here we will introduce the ones you are likely to use the most.

You will need to be enrolled before you can access any of these platforms. Read more about online enrolment.

Student Information portal

The Student Information portal is where you log in to enrol. It holds some key information about you and your studies and is where you will complete some important administrative tasks. You will use it to:

If relevant, you can also use it to:

Your teaching timetable

Your teaching timetable is created and managed on a platform called TimeEdit, which you will be able to access immediately after enrolling. TimeEdit will have the most up-to-date version of your teaching timetable including rooms and any online events. Once you have enrolled, your teaching timetable should be visible on TimeEdit within two working days. If you have optional modules to register, these will be added to your timetable two working days after you complete your module registration

  • Go to the TimeEdit login page
  • Choose 'sign on with OBU SSO' (Oxford Brookes University single sign on)
  • Enter your login details - these will be your student number and the password you created for enrolment
  • Click 'My timetable' to view your timetable on a week-by-week basis.

There are lots of other options for viewing the information on TimeEdit, from searching for a single module to viewing the entire academic year. Full guides on how to use TimeEdit can be found on the Timetabling Guides Hub

We recommend using a desktop or laptop to view your timetable on TimeEdit. TimeEdit is not currently optimised for mobiles, meaning that you will be able to login and view the timetable on your phone but it will be very condensed. If you don't have your own desktop or laptop and would like help to access a university one, you can speak to the Student Induction Team.

Your student email account

Your new student email account is hosted by Gmail. Your account will be automatically set up for you - you will be able to access the account from Monday 7 September onwards provided you have completed your enrolment by then. You are advised to use a Chrome browser or the Gmail app.

  • Go to the sign-in page for Google Accounts.
  • In the ‘Email or phone’ box, enter your student number followed by @brookes.ac.uk. For example, 19000000@brookes.ac.uk. Then click next.
  • Enter your password (the same password you used for online enrolment).
  • Follow the instructions on protecting your account.
  • Activate the two-step verification feature.

It is important to activate the two-step verification feature which adds an extra layer of security to your account by sending you an extra code to access your account.

Once you have accessed your email account, you will also be able to access the other Google Workspace tools such as Google Drive, Google Meet and Google Calendar.

Google Calendar

Your Google Calendar will receive details of your teaching timetable from TimeEdit but may not be as accurate. You are welcome to use your Calendar as a time management and scheduling tool but we recommend always checking your teaching timetable directly on TimeEdit.

Moodle

Moodle is the Oxford Brookes University Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). You'll be able to access it once you have enrolled. You will use Moodle to:

You will find out more about Moodle during your course induction. Alternatively you can watch this Moodle Induction video in your own time.
