New student checklist

Everything you need to do before you start your course

The seven key tasks to complete

Please make sure you complete any of these tasks that apply to you. This will ensure you have everything set up and ready for you to begin your studies.

The Student Induction Team can advise you about any of the tasks on this list. Feel free to chat with us below.

Don't forget to connect to campus WiFi once you arrive.

  • Complete your online enrolment
  • Enrolment is the process all students need to complete in order to become an official Oxford Brookes University student. We will send you an email inviting you to enrol.

  • Complete your Right to Study checks
  • If you are not a UK national you will also need to complete your Right to Study checks to be fully enrolled. You can do them either before or after your online enrolment.

  • Find your course induction schedule
  • During Induction Week, most courses will have their own programme of events that you must attend. Please make sure to find and follow yours.

  • Set up your University email account and calendar
  • You can set up and access your email, calendar and other online University systems from Monday 12 January onwards provided you have enrolled successfully first.

  • Register your modules
  • You'll need to register any optional modules by the end of Induction Week. Compulsory modules will appear on your timetable automatically.

  • Complete the mandatory sexual consent module
  • This course supports our students to understand consent and feel confident applying it, so we can keep ourselves and other people safe.

  • Collect your student card
  • Your student ID card proves you attend Oxford Brookes and has a number of other benefits too. Make sure to collect yours when we notify you it's ready.

Important optional tasks

Register for Inclusive Support

The Inclusive Support Service provides advice and support for disabled students and those with long-term physical and mental health conditions. They are happy to discuss with you the options for support at university, from your studies to your accommodation.

Apply for your student bus pass

It's really easy to get around Oxford by bus. A discounted student bus pass gets you a year's travel on all city centre services. Whether you want to commute between home and University or you just fancy exploring, a bus pass may save you money long-term.

Register with a doctor

We recommend registering with a doctor as soon as you can so that you can access medical care if needed. If you will be living in Oxfordshire you are welcome to register with the Oxford Brookes Medical Practice on the Headington Campus if you wish.

Other recommended tasks

In addition to the above, there are some other things you might want to think about doing before you start at Oxford Brookes or as you settle in. It's up to you to decide which of these might be interesting or helpful. Our team are here to help, so if you aren't sure what might be relevant to you, please feel free to contact us for advice.
