Wellness Wednesdays

Wellness Wednesdays allow for all Oxford Brookes students and staff to use our Headington and Harcourt Hill, Brookes Sport gym facilities for FREE, all day on Wednesdays. 

With fewer Wednesday afternoon lectures, it's the perfect chance to add some exercise to your week.

We have options to help you start your gym journey with confidence (Wellness Checks and a free student gym-confidence fitness class) and our Inclusive Gym Time which is designed to make our gyms accessible for those who prefer a quieter environment for getting active. How to get involved...

To attend the gym on a Wellness Wednesday, please follow these steps (existing Brookes Sport Student or Staff Memberships exempt you from this process): 

  • Click to begin a gym membership registration
  • Choose either "Harcourt Hill" or "Headington" - it doesn't matter which, as the membership will grant access to both gyms
  • Enter your basic details, including your Oxford Brookes email address
  • Select "Pay as you go" (PAYG) and complete the rest of the form 

Once you're set up as a PAYG user, you're ready to get moving! 

On your first visit, please bring your Oxford Brookes ID card or proof of enrollment or employment if you don't yet have your ID card. 

On every visit you will need to show your Oxford Brookes ID card at reception and they will grant you access to the gym. 

Inclusive Gym Time

From December, we are proud to introduce Inclusive Gym Time as part of our Wellness Wednesday initiative. 

This is a sensory quiet time for anyone who prefers to get active in a quieter environment. 

On Wednesday mornings, from when we open until 10am we will:

  • Turn off the music
  • Turn off all public TV screens
  • Politely request that all gym users work out as quietly as possible

Brookes Sport, Headington Times: 07:00 - 10:00 (please note we have a weekly scheduled fire alarm on Wednesdays at around 09:45)  

Brookes Sport, Harcourt Hill Times: 06:45 - 10:00

Starting your gym journey with confidence

New to our gym or new to working out in general? No worries! We've got you covered:

  1. You can book a free Gym Induction or Wellness Check to kickstart your physical wellness journey. Click here to learn how to book.
  2. We also have a FREE, student only "Learn to Lift" gym confidence Fitness Class. Join us on the gym floor at Brookes Sport, Headington, every Wednesday from 15:30 to 16:15. You can book via the Brookes Sport on Android or IOS, via our web Book Online portal or by talking to our friendly reception team.    

BUCS Wednesdays

Wednesday is the sporting highlight of the week at Brookes Sport, as our TEAMBrookes sports teams compete against universities from across the country in their British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) games. 

As part of our Wellness Wednesdays initiative, we're encouraging the entire Oxford Brookes University community to get active on Wednesdays and then show their support for our teams at the BUCS fixtures. 

Fixtures take place every Wednesday from mid-October to the end of March and we post the weekly schedule on our Instagram stories (@brookessportoxford) every Wednesday morning.  

But Brookes Sport isn't just about sports – it's also a fantastic social hub. We warmly welcome students, staff, and community members to use our social spaces, Sports Bar, and Breton Café to relax and enjoy quality time with friends.
