Right to Study checks

These checks are for anyone who is not a British citizen, regardless of whether you pay home or international fees. Please read the information on this page carefully.

Your online enrolment will show whether you need to complete the Right to Study checks. The checks are dependent on nationality and all students who are not British citizens will need to complete it. Please send us all the documents listed below, even if you sent some previously as part of the Admissions process. You will not be fully enrolled until you have done this. The information on this page will tell you what we need.

You are welcome to visit the enrolment desk in the John Henry Brookes Building and complete your checks there. The Student Induction Team can help you ensure you get everything submitted correctly. We recommend bringing your own phone or laptop.

How to complete your Right to Study checks

Student visa holders who applied for their CAS through CAS Shield

You can only complete your Right to Study checks once you have your Student visa and have arrived in the UK.

Once you are in the UK, please upload both of the following documents to the Travel Docs section of Enroly CAS Shield.

Share code generated at View and prove your immigration status. To generate a share code, you will need to have set up an e-visa account.
Arrival documents - once you are in the UK, we need a copy of your boarding pass (digital or paper) and an arrival stamp in your passport, if you got one. If you cannot provide these documents, please upload or email us a copy of your travel itinerary, a luggage tag from the airline if you have one, and a message confirming that you have arrived in the UK.

Student visa holders who have not used Enroly CAS Shield to apply for their CAS

This includes Research Degree students, exchange students or any student who cannot log into Enroly CAS Shield.

Please email both of the following documents to isct@brookes.ac.uk using the following title: Enrolment September 2026 number 19XXXXXX.

Share code generated at View and prove your immigration status. To generate a share code, you will need to have set up an e-visa account.

Students who entered as a Visitor - for programmes of less than 6 months (including exchange students and visiting research students)

You can only do your Right to Study checks once you arrive in the UK. Please do not email us your passport and travel documentation before you travel.

Please send a copy of your passport and boarding pass (digital or paper) or flight ticket to isct@brookes.ac.uk once you arrive in the UK. If you have a digital visa because you got your Visitor visa in your home country before you travelled, please also send us a share code generated at View and prove your immigration status.

Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: Enrolment September 2026 visitor visa student number 19XXXXXX.

Students with other visas or immigration permission

If you are on any other visa type, please email a copy of your passport and your share code to isct@brookes.ac.uk. This could include Indefinite Leave to Remain, Dependent visa, Skilled Worker visa, EU Settlement, Ancestry visa, British National Overseas (BNO), Asylum Seeker or Refugee status. You should be able to generate a share code to show Right to Study at view and prove your immigration status. Please note, you will need to choose a reason for the share code from a drop down box. Please choose “Something else” as your reason, not “Right to Work”.

Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: Enrolment September 2026 other visa student number 19XXXXXX.

Students with Irish passports

Please send a copy of your passport to isct@brookes.ac.uk.

Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: ‘Enrolment September 2026 Irish passport student number 19XXXXXX’.

Should I do my online enrolment first or wait until my Right to Study check is completed?

You should do your online enrolment as soon as it opens. You do not have to wait until your Right to Study documents are ready.

Will I be told if there's something incorrect or missing?

Yes, we will either send you a message on CAS Shield or an email if we need further information from you.

I don’t have a boarding pass or arrival stamp, what should I do?

Please upload or send us a copy of your travel itinerary, a luggage tag from the airline if you have one, and a message confirming that you have arrived in the UK.

How long will the checks take?

The checks generally take a few working days once we have all the required documents. At peak times, or if you have an unusual situation, the checks can take longer.

How will I know when my checks are complete?

We will either send you a message on CAS Shield or an email to confirm your checks are complete.
