Right to Study checks

These checks are for anyone who is not a British citizen, regardless of whether you pay home or international fees. Please read the information on this page carefully.

Your online enrolment will show whether you need to complete the Right to Study checks. The check is dependent on nationality and all students who are not British citizens will need to complete it. Please send us all the documents listed below, even if you sent some previously as part of the Admissions process. You will not be fully enrolled until you have done this. The information on this page will tell you what we need.

All Right to Study checks must be completed by Friday 6 February 2026.

How to complete your Right to Study checks

Students studying a course which is longer than 6 months on a Student visa

You can only complete your Right to Study checks once you have your Student visa and have arrived in the UK.

We need both of the following:

A share code generated at View and prove your immigration status. To generate a share code, you will need to have set up an e-visa account.
Once you arrive in the UK, we need a copy of your boarding pass (digital or paper) and an arrival stamp in your passport, if you received one.

How to send the required documents:

If you have access to CAS Shield, you should upload these documents to the Travel Documents and Arrival Documents section. Please update your arrival date there as soon as you know it.
If you are a Research Degree student or an exchange student you won’t have access to CAS Shield. You should email the documents to isct@brookes.ac.uk using the subject heading 'Enrolment January 2026 number 19XXXXXX'. You can also email the documents to us if you have used CAS Shield before but have lost access.

Students studying a course which is 6 months or less on a Student visa

You can only complete your Right to Study checks once you have your Student visa and have arrived in the UK.

We need the following:

Stamped vignette (sticker in passport). If your vignette was not stamped as you came through the e-gates, please send a copy of your or boarding pass (digital or paper).

How to send the required documents:

If you have access to CAS Shield, you should upload these documents to the Travel Documents and Arrival Documents section there. If you use CAS Shield, please update your arrival date there as soon as you know it.
If you are a Research Degree student or an exchange student you won’t have access to CAS Shield. You should email the documents to isct@brookes.ac.uk using the subject heading 'Enrolment January 2026 number 19XXXXXX'. You can also email the documents to us if you have used CAS Shield before but have lost access.

Students who entered as a Visitor - for programmes of less than 6 months (including exchange students and visiting research students)

You can only do your Right to Study checks once you arrive in the UK. Please do not email us your passport and travel documentation before you travel.

Please send a copy of your passport and boarding pass (digital or paper) to isct@brookes.ac.uk once you arrive in the UK. If you have a vignette visa in your passport because you got your Visitor visa in your home country before you travelled, please also send us a stamped copy of this.

Please make sure that the subject heading of your email is in the following format: 'Enrolment January 2026 visitor visa student number 19XXXXXX'.

Students with other visas or immigration permission

If you are on any other visa type, please send a copy of your passport and your share code to isct@brookes.ac.uk. When generating the share code, you will need to choose a reason for the share code from a drop down box. Please choose 'Something else' as your reason, not 'Right to Work'. Visa types could include Indefinite Leave to Remain, Dependent visa, Skilled Worker visa, EU Settlement, Ancestry visa, British National Overseas (BNO) visa, Refugee or Asylum Seeker.

Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: 'Enrolment January 2026 other visa student number 19XXXXXX'.

Students with Irish passports

Please send a copy of your passport to isct@brookes.ac.uk.

Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: ‘Enrolment January 2026 Irish passport student number 19XXXXXX’.

Will I be told if there's something incorrect or missing?

Yes, we will either send you a message on CAS Shield or an email if we need further information from you.

I don’t have a boarding pass or arrival stamp, what should I do?

Please upload or send us a copy of your travel itinerary and a message confirming that you have arrived in the UK.

How long will the checks take?

The checks generally take a few working days once we have all the required documents. At peak times, or if you have an unusual situation, the checks can take longer.

How will I know when my checks are complete?

We will either send you a message on CAS Shield or an email to confirm your checks are complete.
