Choosing modules for your course

Degree programmes are modular, meaning each degree is made up of a number of study modules. Some of these modules are compulsory for all students on the degree and you will be automatically registered for them. Others may be optional. You will need to choose which optional modules you want to take and register for them yourself.

During Induction Week, you will meet academic staff and your Student Support Coordinators (SSCs) who will explain more about module registration and whether you need to register for any at this time. It's fine to wait for this information and register modules during Induction Week, but if you would rather get this done early, the Student Induction Team would be happy to put you in contact with your Student Support Coordinators for advice.

You will need to complete your online enrolment first. Once you are enrolled, you can register your modules using your Student Information portal.

Your class timetable will show your optional modules two working days after you have registered for them.

Key deadlines

  • Thursday 17 September - deadline for postgraduate students to register modules for semester 1
  • Friday 18 September - deadline for undergraduate students to register modules
  • Friday 25 September (4:00pm) - deadline for registering for an additional language module
  • Friday 2 October (4:00pm) - deadline for changing set within a language module or deleting a language module

Undergraduate students

All undergraduate students will have compulsory modules in their first year. You may also have some optional modules which you will need to register for.

When registering modules, you will notice that they are all assigned a level. You will need to choose level 4 modules in your first year. Level 5 and 6 modules are for your second and third year, so you will not be able to register for these yet.

Once you are fully enrolled, you will be able to access your 'Programme Requirements' page through your Student Information portal. This page shows whether you need to register any optional modules or if you have a compulsory first year (you may need to register up to two optional modules for Semester 2.) You can access the module registration system via your Programme Requirements page by clicking on 'go to registration' at the top of the page.

Postgraduate students

Depending on the programme, some of your modules may be compulsory and some may be optional. You will need to register your choice of optional modules if applicable. Your programme team will provide more information during Induction Week.

Once you are fully enrolled, you will be able to access your 'Programme Requirements' page through your Student Information portal. You can access the module registration system via your Programme Requirements page by clicking on 'go to registration' at the top of the page.

Exchange students

To maintain full-time student status, you need to study 4 single modules worth 7.5 ECTS credits each per semester (totaling 30 ECTS per semester or 60 UK Credits).

Additionally, you can register for a language module at no extra cost, subject to your eligibility and timetable availability.

You can view your chosen modules in your Student Information portal. If you need to review or adjust your selection, please contact the Global Mobility and Engagement Team.

Academic English and additional language modules

You can find out about academic language modules on the Centre for Academic Development website, which also details other opportunities to develop your skills. To add one of the modules, email academicdev@brookes.ac.uk or if you would like to discuss possibilities please visit the Centre for Academic Development on the ground floor of the Buckley building.

As a full-time Oxford Brookes student, you can take an Additional Language Module of your choice every year (or every two years, if you are a part-time student). The deadline to register for an additional language module is 4:00pm on Friday 25 September (or when the class is full). Any other changes (set changes or deletion) will need to be done by 4:00pm on Friday 2 October.
