Return to Activity guidance from Rugby Football Union (RFU)
Oxford Brookes University Rugby Union Football Club (OBURFC) is one of the largest, most successful and fastest developing clubs at Oxford Brookes University. The club is run by a committee of elected students, headed up by Men’s Club President, Women’s Club President, and Director of Rugby Joe Winpenny alongside our team of Professional Coaches.
The social nature of the club means that everyone at OBURFC from the Presidents through to the Performance Player through to the Social Member interacts and gets on well, and with regular socials, joining OBURFC is a great way to combine performance sport with a great social life. Trips to Twickenham, Cheltenham and Ascot as well as the various Student Union and The Ox Events throughout the year have been highlights.
For those looking to join our competitive teams, please download the documents below.

The club consists of Men’s & Women’s 1st XV’s, Men’s 2nd XV and Men’s 3rd XV who compete in BUCS competitions Wednesday afternoons during the autumn and spring semesters, they will be joined by a Men’s 4th XV who transition into BUCS competition ahead of the 2020-21 season. The Club also run a Men’s 5th XV/Development XV known as the OBURFC Scholars that compete on Saturday afternoons in the Oxford University RFU College Leagues. On top of the above competitive playing offer there will be a more social playing opportunity available in the form of intra-mural Rugby.
Ahead of the 2020-21 season the Coaching Team has gone through a restructure which will see a team of 4 Coaches take a lead with the Performances Teams (1st and 2nd XV), the 3rd XV/4th XV and Scholars are headed up by their own dedicated Coaches. The Club also provides Coaching/Mentoring/Development opportunities to anyone wishing to take the step into Coaching, we currently have 5 Student Coaches that are being supported in this way. Each Coach has their own area of expertise however they work in harmony rather than insolation and ensure that all sessions and activities have common themes and are game related.
OBURFC and Oxford Harlequins Rugby Football Club have established a partnership based around aligning activities given the locality, use of facilities, and having the same overarching goal of developing players at all levels of the performance pyramid.
The principal aim of this partnership is to enhance the player experience by providing a high quality, diverse and attractive range of opportunities to enjoy, participate in and excel at rugby.
