Rehabilitation and Recovery for Life after Critical Illness (ReLIFE)

 Announcement

MOReS is delighted to launch ReLIFE, a new research theme led by Dr Owen Gustafson. ReLIFE will bring together researchers, clinicians, industry and community partners to develop innovative, interdisciplinary research that improves lives. We warmly invite colleagues and collaborators to join us in shaping this exciting new initiative and its future impact.

About us

The ReLIFE research theme aims to drive international excellence in recovery and rehabilitation following acute and critical illness. Our mission is to empower survivors throughout and beyond their recovery, to regain independence and quality of life. Through groundbreaking research and innovative solutions, we are dedicated to making a meaningful difference in their lives. We design and evaluate cutting-edge rehabilitation and exercise interventions that address long-term physical and functional impairments, shaping the future of critical care recovery.

ReLIFE brings together an exceptional team of multiprofessional clinicians and researchers who collaborate across disciplines, institutions, and international networks. We build future research capacity and capability through research, education, mentorship, and formal academic supervision. Working in partnership with patients, healthcare providers, and policymakers, we ensure our research is evidence-driven, patient-centred, and feasible for clinical implementation.

Research impact

ReLIFE is a research theme focused on helping people rebuild their lives after being acutely ill. Our researchers and healthcare professionals work together to develop and test ways to support recovery, including exercise, rehabilitation, and education, so that survivors can regain strength, independence, and quality of life.

By working closely with patients, families, and care teams, ReLIFE aims to make recovery after intensive care more effective, compassionate, and achievable for everyone. The vast range of exciting projects links us with clinical and academic experts from world-renowned institutions in the UK, such as the University of Oxford and Coventry University, as well as internationally, such as the University of Melbourne and the University of Kentucky.
