Keira Moulding chose to study combined honours in English and French because she wanted to improve her language skills and spend a year abroad.

The best thing about the course is the tutors. They have made me even more passionate about learning French because they care about the students. They really want to help us to make the most of our degrees and so they always make time for you. The fact that the tutors are all native French-speakers also inspires me because their incredible level of English makes me want to be that good in French!

Oxford has a really international community so you constantly hear French being spoken around and it is very easy to find societies and clubs for Francophiles. Oxford is the perfect size city for me; it has everything you need but it is only a couple of hours from London if you want to visit a bigger city. My favorite things about Oxford are all the pubs, bars, great places to eat, and the beautiful parks and colleges. I always enjoy running through Christchurch meadows and looking at the amazing buildings that people have travelled from all over the world to see.

For my year abroad I went to Grenoble to study at university there. It was hands-down the best year of my degree and my confidence in the language improved a lot. It gave me a chance to focus on the culture of where I was living and really have a great experience. Aside from the language, I got to meet some great people and go skiing every weekend! Overall, it was a really fun year which I look back on with only happy memories – I still miss Grenoble every day.

I hope to use my language skills in my future career. I think speaking a second language is invaluable and my year abroad experience has really boosted my CV.
