The facilities are also great – we perform in a real theatre in Oxford, which gives us a proper rehearsal studio with a sprung floor

The Drama BA at Brookes has great connections with the industry, offering us opportunities from working with established directors from the RSC to learning stage combat with Goat & Monkey.

The lecturers on the course also still produce work in the theatre on a regular basis, which gives us students a real insight into theatrical work. The facilities are also great – we perform in a real theatre in Oxford, which gives us a proper rehearsal studio with a sprung floor. We explore contemporary plays like those by Sarah Kane as well as studying the more traditional playwrights like Shakespeare.

The modules allow us the freedom to explore different theatre practioners and dramatic conventions, from ‘Theatre of the Absurd’ to expressionist to naturalistic. Oxford is also a great city in which to study drama – it is thriving with dramatic talent from street theatre to the Oxford Playhouse. Creative people from music, writing and film making are constantly asking for drama students to appear in music videos and films; I have been directing my own piece on a placement in a school for their A Level exam, which has led to a job working for Stagecoach. Brookes has offered me opportunity.
