German student Jakob Hingst came to Brookes to combine his two passions in life, Drama and History. He is hoping to become a playwright in the future.

The Drama Course offers a wonderful mixture of theoretical and practical approaches to the subject. I like approaching theatre in various different ways theoretically while not losing focus on the performance aspect of theatre – the course here lets me do that. Brookes has helped me to think about aspects of theatre I did not pay a lot of attention to before and teaches me how to think in an analytical and ‘theatrical’ way.

I’ve been impressed and inspired by the passion for the subject that I’ve seen in the lecturers and other students I’ve met here. And, being involved in a number of music societies, I’ve had the opportunity to do even more things I love, and be ‘artistically active’ outside my Drama course. There are so many things on offer at Brookes – each day is not long enough to get involved in everything I’d like to do!

Oxford is a beautiful city with a lot to offer. As a city with such a long and impressive history, I find it really inspiring to be here. I don’t think I’ll get tired exploring it anytime soon.

As an international student, my advice would be not to see the University just as a centre of education but also as a place that offers you the opportunities to do the things you love – be it on the course or as part of a society. Whatever it is you’re looking to do, the chances are very good that you will find it here.
