Perspectives on Transnational education
I completed my Registered Nurse training and first degree in Sheffield in 1991 before moving to Oxfordshire. Posts working in Respiratory Medicine and a local Community Hospital were followed by a move into End of Life Care at Sir Michael Sobell House. Various clinical and research roles led to a twelve month secondment to Oxford Brookes University School of Health and Social Care.
In 1999, I took up a full time Lecturer in Health Care position as part of a small team who established the School’s Swindon campus. I am now based at the Marston Road campus in Oxford in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences where I am involved in the delivery of the pre-qualifying Adult Nursing BSc(Hons) and DipHE programmes with particular interest in End of Life care knowledge and skills, ethics and academic support. I also contribute to the inter-professional aspects of the programme.
My previous practice based research related to the measurement and monitoring of distressing symptoms such as nausea and breathlessness. My Master’s dissertation was an action research investigation of the ways in which lecturers generate written assignment feedback and ways of enhancing student understanding of assessment criteria.
