About the course

This short, flexible course is designed exclusively for Oxford Brookes BSc (Hons) graduates in Sport & Exercise Science; Sport, Coaching & Physical Education; and Sport, Physical Activity & Health Promotion who started their programme in September 2020 or later and successfully completed SPOR5004: Principles of Training. By building on your existing knowledge, you’ll complete the remaining requirements needed to achieve a CIMSPA-endorsed Personal Trainer qualification and take the next step in your professional journey.

Delivered online and designed to fit around your schedule, the course allows you to study at your own pace while applying your learning in a practical, industry-focused context. You will complete a combination of theoretical and applied components, culminating in an in-person assessment at Oxford Brookes University, Headington Campus.

With a clear focus on employability, the course equips you with the competencies required to operate as a Personal Trainer, while ensuring alignment with CIMSPA professional standards.

Learning units

The course focuses on completing the key areas required for professional recognition, building directly on your prior academic experience.

You will cover:

  • Business Planning 
    Develop the knowledge and skills to establish and manage your own personal training business, including client acquisition, branding, and financial planning.
  • Training Intervention 
    Design and deliver tailored training programmes that meet individual client goals, taking into account fitness levels, health considerations, and performance outcomes.
  • Anatomy and Physiology (Sport, Coaching and Physical Education graduates ONLY) 
    Strengthen your understanding of how the body responds to exercise, enabling you to create safe, effective, and evidence-based training plans.
