Dr Kimon de Ridder

Kimon is a corporate lawyer by background and operated in private practice for a number of years, first in a London-based international law firm, followed by a range of senior in-house M&A legal roles in a number of publicly listed, US and UK global companies. He then went on to several Chief Compliance Officer roles and Chief Risk Officer roles across a range of global businesses within financial services, insurance and healthcare – all highly regulated sectors. He is currently in a senior Compliance role for one of the UK’s largest banks, and has decades of experience in board engagements, operating as a member of senior executive teams, and being an approved person by the financial services regulator. He brings a breadth of corporate- and board experience, and a depth of risk expertise and critical thinking, that are highly relevant to the challenges facing the university sector. Most significantly, he brings a passion for the value of tertiary education in providing both opportunity and optionality for students in their future careers.

He established a UK registered charity over 20 years’ ago to provide funding and bursaries to his former school in Johannesburg (St John’s College) and Chaired the charity for over a decade. He remains a trustee on its board.

Originally from South Africa, he has lived in the UK for the past 30 years and has studied both in South Africa and the UK. He holds a Doctorate in Laws.

Kimon has a home in Oxfordshire and his wife is a specialist speech and language therapist in cleft lip and palate. They have a daughter, who is in her final year of A-Levels.
