Publishing Highlights

With our unique focus on publishing, we regularly welcome professionals from across China and Europe to come together and share their publishing experiences and wisdom.

Conference and Symposium

Taking place again in 2022 is the Symposium on Publishing in Europe and China. The event is an opportunity to learn more about publishing in China, including such topics as social media and the rights trade. There are expert panels covering trade, scholarly and educational publishing.

Angus Phillips, Director of the Confucius Institute at Oxford Brookes University, said: ‘This event is an exciting opportunity to understand more fully the publishing market in China and how further links can be established between publishing in Europe and China.’

Customized Training

We offer training to Chinese publishers with our colleagues from OICP throughout the year.

We have been delighted to host our own summer school, an intensive two-week course for Chinese publishers. We also offer shorter, one-day courses, as well as bespoke programmes focusing on particular areas of interest, for example digital publishing.

Training sessions include lectures from industry experts and industry visits. Tea and coffee breaks can be arranged, as well as transportation to industry visits and translation services during lectures if required.

Publishing Trips

As the first Confucius Institute to be partnered with an enterprise in China, we arrange specially tailored summer camps for our University’s publishing students. For two weeks, undergraduate and postgraduate publishing students enjoy cultural tasters at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), visits to publishing houses and booksellers, as well as attending the Beijing International Book Fair held each August.

In 2019, we launched the first annual Young Publishing Professionals’ Trip to China, an exciting opportunity for early career professionals to take part in an organized visit to Shanghai and Beijing for two weeks. The trip included a variety of industry and cultural visits, as well as multi-day entry to the Beijing International Book Fair to enable attendees to conduct business and gain a deeper understanding of publishing in China. The trip has an emphasis on networking and the rights trade.

If you are a publishing professional and meet the eligibility requirements to attend, contact to register your interest for the next upcoming trip.
