Course structure

The BA (Hons) Business and Enterprise (Final Year Entry) is designed to help you build on your previous studies and graduate with a UK honours degree in just one year.

Throughout the course, you will explore key areas including entrepreneurship, innovation, strategic business management and emerging technologies. You will develop an enterprising mindset while strengthening your understanding of how organisations grow, adapt and respond to change in a global environment.

A core feature of the programme is applied learning. You will work on practical projects, develop your own business or social enterprise idea, and explore how business can create a positive impact. You will take modules focused on business ideation, launch and entrepreneurial management, culminating in a business pitch to mock investors.

The course also includes dedicated support for academic development, career planning and applied research, helping you graduate with the confidence and skills to progress into employment, further study or self-employment.

Learning and teaching

Teaching combines academic theory with practical, experiential learning designed to prepare you for today’s business world.

You will learn through:

A strong emphasis is placed on learning by doing. You will develop business ideas, solve real-world problems and work collaboratively with students from diverse international backgrounds.

Teaching is supported through our digital learning environment, giving you access to course materials, reading lists, research tools and collaborative spaces. You will also benefit from input from academics with industry expertise and opportunities to hear from entrepreneurs and business professionals.

Assessment

This course is 100% coursework, allowing you to demonstrate your knowledge through practical and applied assessment methods.

  • research-based coursework.

Assessments are designed to reflect real-world business scenarios, helping you build skills in communication, problem-solving, innovation and strategic thinking.

A highlight of the course is the opportunity to pitch your own business idea in a Dragon’s Den-style assessment, developing confidence and entrepreneurial capability in a supportive environment.

Field Trips

While this course does not include formal field trips, you will benefit from opportunities to engage with industry through guest speakers, entrepreneurs in residence and visiting business professionals.

The programme is designed around practical business challenges and applied learning, giving you exposure to real-world perspectives from across enterprise, innovation and management.

You may also have opportunities to work on live briefs and socially focused research projects, helping you connect your studies to current business and societal issues.

Start this course in January or September

You can start this course in January if a September start doesn't suit you.

If you opt to start in January, you will study your first semester between January and May and your second semester between September and December. There will be no teaching during June, July and August.

Study modules

Teaching for this course takes place face to face and you can expect around 8 hours of contact time per week. In addition to this, you should also anticipate a workload of 1200 hours per year. Teaching usually takes place Monday to Friday, between 9.00am and 6.00pm.

Final Year

Compulsory modules

  • Social Enterprise and Innovation

    This module is focused on developing students’ understanding of contemporary issues in entrepreneurship through their active involvement in the Business Faculty’s entrepreneurship research and practitioner communities. This ensures that students learn in ways that parallel or reflect the ways that staff themselves research into entrepreneurship and engage with entrepreneurs and in entrepreneurship. The content, in addition to being contemporary, also reflects the breadth and multi-disciplinary nature of the entrepreneurship research domain. Areas covered include but are not limited to Social Enterprise and Social Innovation. Whilst the module is research-led it is also practically orientated, supporting the development of essential research and self development skills, as well as providing practical insight into student understanding and career aspirations.

  • Critical and Reflective Academic Practice

    This module is designed to develop academic literacies for use on other modules across the programme. Through the design of the final coursework assessments, youwill acquire the essential independent learning skills to support this stage of your Undergraduate study, including research skills, critical thinking, reflection, academic writing, presentation skills, and academic conventions. It will also give you the opportunity to develop your digital literacies and group working skills.

  • Contemporary Business Operations and Emerging Technologies

    This module provides an integrated understanding of contemporary business operations, purchasing and supply chain management, the role of emerging technologies, and the impact of artificial intelligence on business decision-making. Students will explore how businesses develop, implement, and sustain efficient operations while adapting to rapid technological advancements. The module will cover core areas such as operational strategy, supply chain and procurement, process efficiency, digital transformation, and AI-driven business decision-making. The module follows a structured, topic-based approach, with each area studied for approximately two weeks before synthesizing learning into a summative assessment.

  • Applied Research for Social Impact

    The aim of this module is to provide you with the opportunity to undertake an independent research project that addresses real-world challenges and contributes to positive social change. This capstone module integrates research skills developed throughout the programme, enabling you to critically investigate contemporary issues with significant social, environmental, or organisational implications.

  • Advancing your Career Path

    This module aims to develop your knowledge of the theory and practice of career and management. Contemporary organisations increasingly expect employees to self-manage their careers, change roles within the organisation and develop the careers of those they line manage. You will be required to demonstrate critical insight into your own knowledge, skills and experience and consider how this might allow you to manage your post-graduation career.

  • Entrepreneurial Business Management

    Students become familiar with the steps involved in innovation, developing a business idea and drawing up a business plan. This module provides an in-depth focus on the skills involved in evaluating business ideas, the practical steps involved in launching a business and the necessary processes of winning the finance. The module also addresses those issues that ventures must consider when planning for the eventual exit strategy and so focuses attention on the purpose of business enterprise.

  • Entrepreneurial Business Launch

    Students become familiar with the steps involved in developing a business idea and drawing up a business plan. This module provides an in-depth focus on the skills involved in evaluating business ideas, the practical steps involved in launching a business and the necessary processes of winning the finance. The module also addresses those issues that ventures must consider when planning for the eventual exit strategy and so focuses attention on the purpose of business enterprise.

  • Entrepreneurial Business Ideation

    Students become familiar with the steps involved in innovation, developing a business idea at an early stage, conducting initial market research, and learning from the experience of entrepreneurs who have engaged in the same process. This module provides a lean start-up focus on the skills involved in evaluating business ideas, and the learning that can be gained through primary research into others experiences. The module also focuses attention on the purpose of business enterprise.

Tuition fee instalments for the semester are due by the Monday of week 1 of each semester. Students are not liable for full fees for that semester if they leave before week 4. If the leaving date is after week 4, full fees for the semester are payable.
