Do I need a visa to study in the UK?

If you do not have an immigration permission that allows you to study in the UK, for example settled or pre-settled status, you may need to apply for a visa. The information below explains which permission you should apply for depending on your circumstances.

If you have any questions, contact ISAT.

EU Settlement Scheme

The deadline to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme was 30 June 2021. If you have missed the deadline for applying, refer to the UKVI Guidance which explains if you are eligible to make a late application. ISAT cannot advise on late applications - you will need to seek advice from an immigration solicitor.

EU/EEA student with pre-settled or settled status

How do I prove my pre-settled or settled status when travelling into the UK?

When travelling into the UK, you can go through the e-gates, or if you see a Border Force Officer, they should be able to verify you have pre-settled or settled status when you provide your passport. However, we still recommend you know how to prove your immigration status in case you are asked to do so.

How do I prove my pre-settled or settled status to the University?

If you have been granted a pre-settled or settled status, please visit the Government webpage View and prove your immigration status to receive a share code and send this with a copy of your passport to isct@brookes.ac.uk. Find more information on the Right to Study checks webpage

Courses of 6 months or longer

If you were not living in the UK before 31 December 2020, and you do not already have immigration permission that allows you to study in the UK, for example, settled or pre-settled status, you will need to apply for a Student visa through the points-based immigration system (PBS).

Courses of less than 6 months

If your study will be less than 6 months, for example students studying for one semester as an exchange student, you can study on a Visitor visa.
